LGOMA UNIVERSITY

Algoma University is a thriving undergraduate university in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, a lively, scenic city at the heart of the Great Lakes, along the Canada-U.S. border.
The university offers more than 30 undergraduate degree programs and emphasizes a balance of teaching and research to optimize interaction between faculty and students, which promotes student success. Classes are small and the student body is diverse: nearly 13 percent of students are Anishinaabe (First Nations, Inuit and Métis) and over 24 percent are international students. Algoma students benefit from small class sizes, one-on-one faculty interactions, research opportunities, cooperative education options, a recreation centre, multiple housing choices, and international exchange programs.
In recent years, the university has embraced capital expansion, including the expansion of the university’s athletics complex (2015), and the construction of a new student residence (2012) and the Essar Convergence Centre (2011).
An undergraduate-only university, Algoma U students have access to unique research opportunities. Faculty commitment spans the breadth of inquiry, from the microscopic (e.g., genetic diversity of baculoviruses) to the macroscopic (e.g., cultural impact of indigenous self-governance). Partnerships with world-class scientific research institutes as well as community-based and First Nations organizations help fortify the impact of this research on the region, the country, and the world.
Algoma is affiliated with research institutes such as NORDIK Research Institute, which offer students opportunities to acquire knowledge, develop skills, and prepare for the workplace.
